Have you ever been to Bicol? Have you seen the Majestic Mayon Volcano? Have you visited the Virgin of our Lady of Penafrancia? Or the CWC Watersport Center in Pili?

Why not plan a trip this summer with your family and friends and enjoy the beauty of Bicol. By land trip, you can take the aircon buses at the Araneta Center.

Or take a 9 hour drive with your car. Better yet bring along with you a group. Manila to Naga is about 9 hours. This can be broken down to 3 legs.

Ist leg is from Manila to Lucena City about 3 1/2 hours drive

2nd leg Lucena to Calauag about 2 1/2 hours drive

3rd leg Calauag to Naga City about 3 hours drive.

It is recommended that you leave Manila about 5 A.M. No problem with clean toilets as there are lots of Petrons, Shell and Caltex stations along the way. Lunch? No problem too. In Lucena you have Maxs, Jollibee, McDonalds, etc.

But I like eating in the native restaurants along the way. If you’re not in a hurry you can have your lunch at PalayIisdaan inbetween Tayabas and Lucban in Quezon . Very good native food. Inihaw na baboy per kilo , Fresh tilapia, veggies, lots of other goodies for a very reasonable price. Or at LITA’s Seafood Restaurant, along the National Highway in Atimonan. (You will not miss it there are lots of cars and trucks parked on the right side of the road if your going to Bicol.)

On the 3rd leg starting in the town of Calauag. The next concern is not to miss the turn going to The Quirino Highway now Andaya Highway. You will see a sign to TAGKAWAYAN . The idea is not to pass to DAET AS THIS WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL 2 HOURS DRIVE. so from Calauag its TAGKAWAYAN, DEL GALLEGO, RAGAY, LUPI, SIPOCOT. From Sipocot to Naga is an easy 45 minutes to 1 hour drive.

About 7 kilometer uphill of cemented road from Penafrancia Resort you will get to the flat area leading to a 200 steps decent to Malabsay Falls. Water so cold and so fresh awaits you. Nature so green and beautiful. This can be done half a day at the most.

Another beautiful place to visit is Atulayan Island.

It is best to make arrangements with the Resort to prepare packed lunch and drinks. Leave Penafrancia Resort about 7 AM for a 45minutes drive to Sagnay port. You can check your maps for directions. You will pass Pili, Ocampo, Tigaon then Sagnay. When you get to Sagnay ask where the port is so you can take a boat to the Island its a 15 minutes boat ride. You can rent a boat for about P1,800.00 to bring you to the Island and to pick you up say 2 PM.

This is a great day trip. You can be back in Naga about 4 PM.
